Master of Public Health (MPH) with Focused Elective Area in Health Care Management

The Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a focused elective area of Health Care Management is a professional degree for students that have a desire to pursue administrative careers in health systems, hospitals, consulting firms, managed care organizations, insurance firms, medical group practices, government agencies and other health care settings. This program responds to the demands for skilled administrators and managers by building upon the core curriculum through a series of courses that introduces the student to administrative perspectives and issues of the health care industry. The Health Care Management focused elective track provides an opportunity to pursue an area of concentration, strong preparation in the administrative discipline, and a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare sector.

Health care administrators are employed at all levels of government and in the private sector to plan, implement, manage, coordinate, and evaluate programs for the delivery of health care and to design administrative systems appropriate for the population being served. Applications of skills in administration are necessary to accomplish the effective and efficient delivery of health care services.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the Health Care Management Track graduates will be able to:

  • Engage in activities that are relevant and address current trends and issues of health care management.
  • Identify external and internal pressures affecting administrators' functions and their role in organizational politics, resource allocation decisions, and other critical issues.
  • Demonstrate the widespread applicability of management theory to all types of health services organizations and health systems.
  • Reinforce existing skills and experience of health care management while providing and applying new theory, as well as traditional theory and concepts in new ways.
  • Apply health care management terminology and concepts to enhance lifelong learning and professional development
