Bachelor of Arts in Languages and Cultures (BALC)
General Information
The Department offers language majors in: French, German, Russian and Spanish, with Elective Teaching Certification.

All language majors need to complete:
- WCU General Education courses
- LAN 327 (Introduction to Linguistics for Language majors) or LIN 230 (Introduction to Linguistics)
- LNC 368 (Comparative Cultural Studies)
- 10 courses in the respective area of study (FRE, GER, RUS, SPA)
- A second language up to 202 level (Intermediate II)*
- Immersion Experience (through a Study Abroad program or an Internship (LAN 425)
*Language majors with Elective Teaching Certification do not need to complete the second language requirement, as they need to complete the Teaching Certification education courses. Refer to the Teaching Certification sections for detailed information about these courses.
* Students interested in double or dual majors should contact the Chair/Assistant Chair to discuss curriculum paths.
