How Housing Works at WCU

Traditional and Affiliated Housing

Traditional Housing/University-owned is owned and operated by West Chester University.  Affiliated/USH Housing is owned and operated by University Student Housing (USH), a subsidiary of the WCU Foundation.  Both are on-campus housing on either North Campus or South Campus.  There are differences in billing and occupancy/lease agreements, but the Residence Life staff in both are WCU staff.

Incoming Students

  1. First-year Students - Fall Semester

For the Fall semester, students who have paid their admission deposit will receive an e-mail with instructions for choosing their on-campus housing on a rolling basis, generally starting in late February. After that, the e-mails are typically sent within a week of the payment of the admissions deposit. An additional $200 housing deposit/fee will be required.

  2. Transfer Students - Fall Semester

For the Fall semester, students who have paid their admission deposit will receive an e-mail with instructions for choosing their on-campus housing on a rolling basis, generally starting in March.  After that, the e-mails are typically sent within a week of the payment of the admissions deposit. An additional $200 housing deposit/fee will be required. Housing will be available in both University-owned and USH communities, and the choice will be available on a space-available basis.

  3. Spring Semester Housing information is typically sent to students who have paid their admission deposit in an e-mail on a rolling basis, generally starting in late October.

Returning Students

Check your My WCU portal for information on when housing applications are released for the upcoming year.  Once they are released you may start the application process.  A $200 deposit will be required, but this is posted to your University Bill and credited to your housing account for the upcoming school year. It is not a fee.

Special Circumstances

  1. Military/Veterans - West Chester University is committed to accommodating veterans or active service members in housing on campus regardless of the timing in the semester. We offer a variety of housing options on North and South Campus, in apartments, suite-style accommodations, and traditional residence halls.
This brochure provides more information, but please feel free to call us at 610-436-3307 to discuss your situation at any time.
  2. Gender Inclusive - West Chester University is pleased to offer Gender Inclusive housing.
What does this mean? Gender Inclusive housing is a housing option in which two or more students share a multiple occupancy room or apartment regardless of students' sex, gender identity or gender expression. In other words, this option allows for same gender or other gender identities to live together regardless of biological sex.
    This FAQ provides more information.
  3. Special Needs - We provide accommodations for students with special needs.  As students' needs vary, we prefer to discuss student accommodation requests individually.  Please call us at 610-436-3307 for more information.
  4. Graduate Students - Unfortunately we are not able to accommodate graduate students in the traditional residence halls and apartments.  Our partners, University Student Housing, do provide accommodations for graduate students.  Please contact 610-430-4988 for more information.
