If You Are Planning to Study Abroad

Information about the exciting opportunities at West Chester University can be found with the Global Engagement Office. It is important to know that credits earned while abroad are considered "transfer credits" and must be evaluated by West Chester University.  Credits taken while abroad do not count towards the degree residency requirement and students should ensure they are remaining compliant.

Course Pre-Approval

After you have been conditionally approved by the Global Engagement Office and have been accepted to your program, both undergraduate and graduate students planning to study abroad are required to obtain pre-approval for their courses. Undergraduate students must complete the International Credit Transfer Form and Graduate Students must complete the International Transfer of Graduate Credit Pre-Approval Form.

This form must be completed prior to taking courses as part of any international experience.  Please read WCU’s transfer policies prior to completing this form.

Department Chairperson signature is required for all equivalencies and a syllabus many be necessary for evaluation purposes.

Confirm Registration

Students studying abroad will be asked for a copy of their schedule a few weeks into their study abroad experience.  Your registration will be reviewed to confirm you are in an appropriate number of credits based on your semester and approval as well as International Credit Transfer Forms have been received for all courses.

Receiving your Transfer Credits

Students are responsible for ensuring your official transcripts are sent to the Office of Global Engagement after the conclusion of your Study Abroad experience.  A delay in sending transcripts may affect your ability to apply to graduate or have your degree conferred, the disbursement of financial aid, and your appropriate registration time-ticket assignment for future terms.
