  • Collecting the Victorians: The Lure of the Signed Book" , November 19, 2014 talk by noted book collector and author Mark Samuels Lasner (University of Delaware Library Senior Research Fellow)
  • Color Stories: Color, Concept and the Design of Book Jackets, April 22, 2014. Lecture by award winning, book-cover designer, Kimberly Glyder. Funded by a Year of Color grant awarded to the English Club and co-sponsored by the Center for Book History. Special Collections, 6th Floor, Frances Harvey Green Library.
  • World Book Night, April 23, 2014. West Chester University's Center for Book History once again spread "the love of reading, person to person" by distributing free copies of Diane Ackerman's The Zookeeper's Wife, on the corner of High Street and University Avenue. We started at 6:15 pm; all the books were gone by 6:33 pm!.
  • Books and Reading: From the Stone Age to the Digital Page: Join us on Tuesday afternoon, March 4, 2014 at 4:30 pm for an hour-long, invigorating discussion of the future of reading. Panelists will include WCU's Director of Libraries Richard Swain, English professor and book historian, Eleanor Shevlin, English professor and educational digital technologist Jordan Schugar, and literacy professor and scholar Heather Schugar. Special Collections, 6th floor, Frances Harvey Green Library.

2013

  • In Fall 2013 the West Chester's NEA-funded Big Read hosted over thirty-four events centered around Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried and held around campus and in the community. A read-a-thon devoted  to war and literature launched the program on September 11th, and a series of talks given by Tim O'Brien on Monday, November 11, 2013 offered a unforgettable close to the two-month run of events.
  • What Soldiers Sang and Read, Tuesday, October 29, 2013, Philips Autograph Library, 4:30 - 7 pm. Co-sponsored by the West Chester Center for Book History and Friends of the Library as part of the West Chester Big Read 2013, this two-part program focuses on the songs composed and sung by soldiers and the books they carried. Dr. Saul Broudy will discuss and perform the songs of soldiers. Dr. Stanely Weintraub will discuss what soldiers read, including his experiences with the Armed Services Editions.

  • Dr. Steven Herb, Director of the Pennsylvania Center for the Book, Spring 2013.  A pilot project with WCU on the Literary and Cultural Heritage Map of Pennsylvania. Thursday, March 28, 2013.

2012

  • Music, Poetry and Printing ,” December 1, 2012. The first annual WCCBH Holiday event:
    • A musical performance by the Orpheus Supertones featuring Clare Milliner and Walt Koken.
    • Book-signing of copies of The Milliner-Koken Collection of American Fiddle Tunes. One copy of this collection is housed in FHG Library’s Special Collections and the other is in reference.
    • Poet David Yezzi read from his works, including poems from his most recent book, Birds of the Air.
    • Aralia Press limited edition holiday cards featuring David Yezzi’s poem, “The Hug,”
    • Tours of Aralia Press.
