Making Real Change

Our partners are powerful community organizations in the greater Philadelphia region that focus on building power, the people’s democratic voice, and making real change. Our strength-based approach means that if we initiate projects together, they are collaborations guided by the assets and strengths of urban communities, families and youth. RUX major capstone students are placed with these organizations for approximately 100 hours (two half-days or one full day per week for 12 weeks), while YES minors and RUX students earlier in their educations are placed with these organizations for 20 or 30 hours for a semester. We ask community organizations what authentic contributions students can make to their work, and we ask how WCU can help meet their needs, be it through space, expertise, networking, or—most consistently, as a pipeline for skilled, knowledgeable and committed labor force and citizenry.
