DREAM

Faculty Professional Development Opportunity

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs invites applications to the DREAM faculty professional development program. DREAM has been revamped for faculty by faculty. DREAM is designed to support faculty who have initial experience with  grants (e.g., PRG grant, FDPC grant, smaller private grants, supporting roles on grants with colleagues) and who are interested in further developing their grant writing skills, committed to identifying a specific funding mechanism, and invested in developing a strong external proposal. Faculty participants who fulfill all participation requirements will receive a $1000 stipend at the conclusion of the program.

The program will focus on the following aspects of grant writing:

  • Designing: Refining research questions, methodology, and pilot data collection strategies.
  • Reviewing: Understanding sponsor priorities and analyzing successful past proposals for the purpose of informing one’s own proposal.
  • Elevating: Polishing technical narratives to meet rigorous standards and funder guidelines
  • Aligning: Curating a team that is ideally positioned to carry out a project and connecting with university offices that can support the initiatives
  • Mentoring: Participating in peer accountability writing circle in which all participants give and receive peer mentorship through critical feedback

DREAM will start in September with an orientation meeting and assignment focused on identifying funding opportunities. From October-April, faculty will participate by attending a 90-minute monthly meeting that includes a range of activities related to grant writing. In addition, between meetings, faculty will complete asynchronous assignments related to preparing their grant submission and providing feedback on peers’ drafted grant sections. Faculty should be committed to continued development as a grant writer and invested in providing and receiving feedback.
