West Chester's First Planning Committees
West Chester University has developed a cross-divisional committee structure to address the needs of our first generation college students. Committee responsibilities are listed below, as well as the contact person for each respective committee.
Academics
Liaison: Dr. Tabetha Adkins, Associate Vice Provost for Student Success and Dean, University College
This committee focuses on classroom practices, faculty training, research, academic advising practices, and curriculum development with an emphasis on first generation student needs.
Communication
Liaison: Joe Santivasci, Associate Vice President for Campus Planning and Outreach, Director of the WCU Philadelphia location
This committee creates support mechanisms, newsletters, publications, technology systems, communication channels, websites, and social media to support first generation students.
Living Learning Community/Theme Housing
Liaison: Dr. Judy Kawamoto, Assistant Vice President for Student Development
This committee aims to create a living learning community and/or theme housing in
the residence halls focused on first generation students, and
build Academic Affairs and Residence Life partnerships.
Mentoring Program
Liaison: Dr. Tabetha Adkins, Associate Vice Provost for Student Success and Dean, University College
The Mentoring Program committee aims to develop a comprehensive mentoring program for first generation students to include faculty, staff and students, coordinating with existing mentoring programs.
Programs
Liaison: Dr. Judy Kawamoto, Assistant Vice President for Student Development
The Programs committee plans curricular and co-curricular events, new student programs/orientation
initiatives, campus and student organization
events, develops collective values/beliefs, and encourages involvement in campus traditions.
