Dr. Melissa Reed is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology. She came to West Chester University in 2011 and teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in the Exercise Science division of the department.
Dr. Reed earned her BS in Exercise Physiology from East Stroudsburg University. She then completed her MA in Exercise Science from East Carolina University, in Greenville, North Carolina. She also completed her PhD in Bioenergetics and Exercise Science from East Carolina University.
Dr. Reed’s primary area of research focuses on the reversal of Type 2 diabetes following bariatric surgery, obesity and metabolic disorders as well as interprofessional education. She is certified as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM CE-P) and holds the Level III Credential for Exercise is Medicine. Dr. Reed currently serves as the Vice-President of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the American College of Sports Medicine (MARC-ACSM) and was previously an elected member at large responsible for chairing the research committee.
Dr. Reed has published in journals such as the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Obesity Surgery, and the American Journal of Physiology.
