Sam (they/them) is trained in political theory and history. Their areas of focus are transgender history and prison studies which they approach using Black Feminist theory, critical trans studies, and queer of color critique. Their dissertation analyzes transmasculine people's experiences of violence in the 20th and 21st century US, focusing on prisons, policing, medicine, and transphobic attacks.
