Small Business Saturday

CAH Ambassadors - April 2021

This week we asked our Ambassadors to share some of their favorite small businesses. If you’re looking for some new clothes, accessories, designs, and a ton of other cool merch, check out these shops and links!

What's your favorite small business?

Gen: I work at a dance store in West Chester, called The Village Dance Shoppe. We are a small business selling all the dance shoes and apparel you can think of cheaper than buying online or any other store! So if you are ever in need of a new pair of shoes or need clothes for a dance class come visit me!

Rachel: My friend, Remi Scullin, started her own business last year in quarantine. She sells affordable tie-dye and college loungewear sets. Her company is called WC Dye Company and you can find her products on instagram at wcdye.co. It is an awesome place to get yourself a comfortable matching set to wear at home, to run errands, or maybe next semester to class on campus.

BIPOC owned business? / Femme owned business?

Emma: This shop sells self-defense keychains that include: Pepper Spray, Whistle, Kubotan Stick, Faux Fur Pom Keychain, Chapstick/Hand Sanitizer Holder, Wristlet Keychain. This is something that has been brought up again lately, especially after the Sarah Everard case. Everything that is included with this keychain are tools to use in case someone is ever in a dangerous situation where they need to defend themselves. https://safebabeselfdefense.com

Becs: A Black woman-owned business I really admire is B-Buffaloe. B-Buffaloe is run by a WCU Student, Ilycia Buffaloe. She creates specialty designs, clothes, and Drag! For all your custom and glitter needs contact Ibbuffaloe20@outlook.com.

Zach: In North Philadelphia, there is a really great Puerto Rican bakery called "El Coqui" that features a lot of Puerto Rican pastries, hot food, etc. and it is BIPOC owned and managed.

What’s your favorite etsy shop?

Becs & Logan: WCU alum, Taylor Mattes creates beautiful handcrafted jewelry! She even makes custom pieces like Pride earrings and zodiac bracelets. Her store, DaytimeCraftShop, specializes in handmade jewelry and decor all with a "touch of magick". You can tell she puts a lot of hard work into her art. Her cute earrings, necklaces, and Christmas ornaments are the best packages to get in the mail! Here’s the shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/daytimecraftshop

Cait: My friend, Alondra Santos-Castillo, a fourth year student at WCU, creates her own soaps and awesome graphics for key chains, stickers, and MORE! Check out her Etsy Shop and make your self-care and gift exchanges at your fingertips!
