WCU Family Weekend

Save our Date - Family Weekend 2022

Join us in West Chester September 23-25, 2022 !  Whether you are a Chester County local or from outside mid-Atlantic, we welcome all members of the Ram Fam to participate in Family Weekend 2022. Family Weekend is a great time to spend time with you student, connect with West Chester University, and experience life as a Golden Ram! We are planning a weekend for you filled with fun, tradition, and unique experiences. You will have the opportunity to meet other members of the Ram Fam, faculty, and University administrators. You won't want to miss this fun-filled weekend! 

Parking Information

Family Weekend visitors are welcomed and permitted to park in the following Student-designated parking lots for September 23 – 25:

  • K-Lot (Behind Sykes Student Union)
  • M-Lot Complex (at the Swope Music Building) – this includes all of the M-Lots and Matlack Garage

Families are also welcome to park in the following on-campus parking garages for September 23 – 25:

  • Sharpless Street Garage ($1.50 per hour/$9.00 max)
  • New Street Garage ($1.50 per hour/$9.00 max)

West Chester Artisan Exchange West Chester University families are welcomed on Saturday September 24 from 10 am to 1 pm to the West Chester Artisan Exchange. This open-air market takes visitors on a trip around the world—through food and craft! The market hosts and supports entrepreneurs committed to producing hand-crafted, sustainable foods while sharing sound business practices that have a positive social impact. Upon registration at WCU, families will receive a $10 “market money” flyer accepted at any vendor. One $5 voucher is good until the end of October and a second $5 valid through the end of 2022. Plan to bring a cooler and to visit Family Weekend and beyond.

Escape West Chester

Escape West Chester offers multiple 1-hour games designed for families, teams and friends that will challenge you intellectually but will leave you feeling amused. Oktoberfest

The first-ever Oktoberfest will be held in Downtown West Chester on Saturday, September 24th. Participating locations will have a select list of adult beverages or ciders and fall-themed appetizers. Rams After Hours Going Camping: Featuring Summoning Spirits with Peter Boie Reach beyond the grave and Join Rams After Hours for a night around the campfire featuring Summoning Spirits with Peter Boie. Summoning Spirits is a séance-meets-magic show designed to get your adrenaline pumping with help from the other side. Written and performed by Peter Boie, one of the country’s top touring college acts. He’s been featured on the hit tv show, "Penn & Teller Fool Us" and is a best-selling magic inventor. Summoning Spirits brings to life old legends and haunted stories live on stage, for your delight ... and fright. Family Weekend Welcome Center

Check-in for Family Weekend 2022 in Sykes Student Union, enjoy some refreshments, and receive exclusive swag! Those who are among the first to arrive will receive some Ram Fam goodies, and the first 1,000 attendees will receive the exclusive Family Weekend reusable tote with the West Chester Visitors Bureau Guide in it. Off-Campus Housing Fair

The Off-Campus Housing Fair is hosted by Off-Campus and Commuter Services (OCCS) and serves as an opportunity for students and their families to explore off-campus housing opportunities in West Chester by meeting with property managers, owners, and landlords. OCCS will also provide materials to support the off-campus housing search and opportunities to learn about leasing and living in the local community.

Big 64 Basketball Tournament

The Big 64 is a high school basketball team camp. WCU will be hosting 140 high school teams to play basketball. Tickets can be purchased at the gym as you enter the event. Ticket price is $20 per person.

Games will be held on campus at Hollinger Field House, the WCU Recreation Center, and off campus at The Glen Mills School. See the attached flyer for more information .

Come out to the Student Activity Council's (SAC) Tastes of the Town food crawl from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24th.  Join us in downtown West Chester for some delicious- and discounted!- eats at our participating locations. The more restaurants you visit, the greater your chance of winning various prizes. Check in for the event will be in downtown West Chester.

WCU Football vs. Millersville University

Cheer on the Golden Rams as they face off against Millersville University and enjoy tunes from the Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band at half time! The first 200 Family Weekend attendees will receive a complimentary concession voucher, courtesy of the WCU Foundation! The first 500 Family Weekend attendees will receive a complimentary Ram Fam Central cup! Parking at the stadium is $10 cash, but you are welcome to park for free on North Campus and take the free Campus Shuttle down to South Campus. The shuttle will pick up guests in front of Wayne Hall. Masks are required on the shuttle. No backpacks or large bags will be allowed into the stadium. Prohibited items include, but are not limited to, purses larger than a clutch bag, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, luggage of any kind, computer bags, camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size. Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after they have been inspected. As a reminder, alcohol is not permitted on the property or in the stadium.

Historical Walking Tour

Starting at the preserved Old Main archway on High Street--the symbolic beginning of the university--tourgoers will be treated to a one-hour overview of the evolution of the campus. The tour will emphasize how the physical campus reflects the broadening of the school's educational mission as well as wider social changes. The walking tour will take place around the historic quadrangle, a focus we will enhance by considering expansion to surrounding blocks. Alumni are encouraged to share their own memories and stories as we stroll through campus history.

**For this tour, meet between Main Hall and the Library on High Street.

WCU Live Featuring Comedian – Preacher Lawson

Preacher Lawson

West Chester, PA – PREACHER LAWSON, the star comedian made famous by NBC’s hit television series, America’s Got Talent, will take the stage at West Chester University for one performance only on Saturday, September 24 at 8 p.m. Lawson is best known for his appearance on season 12 of NBC’s hit series, America’s Got Talent (2017) where he made it to the final round. Based off his stellar performance in season 12, Preacher was invited to compete on America’s Got Talent: The Champions (2019) and Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions (2019) where he advanced to the finale after receiving the most fan votes. Preacher can be seen on HBO’s A Black Lady Sketch Show and NBC’s Connecting. He was also the host of the Facebook Watch series World’s Most Amazing Dogs (2019) with George Lopez and Lisa Vanderpump and has built a following on YouTube of over 500,000 subscribers. In 2019, Preacher shot his first stand-up special, Get To Know Me, which premiered on BET+. Preacher recently completed his residency hosting AGT Live in Las Vegas and continues to perform at sold-out venues around the country.

Family Weekend 2021 - September 17 - 19, 2021

Whether you are a Chester County local or from outside mid-Atlantic, we welcome all members of the Ram Fam to participate in Family Weekend on September 17 – 19, 2021. You won't want to miss this fun-filled weekend! 

All faculty, staff, students, and visitors, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth when indoors. Face masks may be worn when outdoors, but it is not an obligation of this policy notice. Mask and COVID-19 safety measures at West Chester University will continue to be updated here. Ram Fam Meetups - Summer 2021

We enjoyed meeting our newest members of the Ram Fam at our first ever Virtual Ram Fam Meetups, where families had an opportunity to meet with other members of the Ram Fam in a virtual format. The event also allowed families to connect with WCU administrators, members of the Ram Fam Advisory Council and included a chance to win a $10 bookstore gift card through trivia with the WCU Foundation.

 

SibFest - March 8 - 12, 2021

The Office of Parent and Family Relations is proud to introduce a new program for Spring 2021 - SibFest! SibFest is a FREE program created to connect younger members of the Ram Fam (grades 7th - 12th) to engaging social activities, events connected to the admission process, and programs focused on social justice. In an effort to be as inclusive as possible, we encourage WCU families and students to invite 7th - 12th grade siblings AND family relations to include those who may fall outside of the immediate nuclear family, but are a part of the chosen family (cousins, friends, neighbors, etc.).

In a panel format, young folks from the Girls Justice League will share about their organizing and activism work as well as respond to the International Women’s Day theme of #ChoosetoChallenge. Featuring Mark Toland As a part of our weekly Rams After Hours program, Mark Toland, a master mind-reader and mentalist, will provide world-class virtual entertainment! Mark’s award-winning mind-reading talents have been featured on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, WGN, TEDx, NPR, SiriusXM, and PBS.
