Research Overview
Research in our laboratory advances the theory and practice of sustainable environmental sciences and engineering. It involves developing innovative microorganism-based technologies that directly influence current human needs, while reducing our impact on the environment. Present topics include: (1) developing predictive models for assessing impacts of nanoparticles on the microbial biota, (2) understanding the relationship between environmental microbiomes and cancer rates, and (3) understanding the impacts of natural disasters on soil microbial biota. Our laboratory is also involved in engaging elementary, middle and high school students in peer-reviewed research on topics ranging from drinking water quality, school campus climate and improving the quality of K-16 education.
