The University must provide sustainable facilities that enable students, faculty and staff to do their best work.
Building on Excellence Strategic Plan
Sustainability Goal 2: Develop and Manage Financial and Physical Resources Sustainably
In 2009, in preparation for the development of the strategic plan, Building on Excellence, the University commissioned a facilities plan conducted by STV Architects, in association with Paulien & Associates.
Released in December 2010, this plan, West Chester University of Pennsylvania: Space Needs Analysis for the Comprehensive Campus Plan, identified academic space needs and deficits. A follow-up report in 2011 looked at space needs at the individual department level.
These documents provided a framework for the University to improve the physical campus environment, in turn supporting the University's mission and strategic plan. Considerable progress has been made toward overcoming space deficits, most notably the Business and Public Affairs Center, which will be the largest academic building at WCU when it opens in 2016.
While the facilities plan has served the University well, continued growth and success requires a realignment of facilities space. While many of the overarching themes that drove the 2010 planning process remain the same, there are several key issues that now direct the plan moving forward. The Mid‐Decade Update to the 2010 Comprehensive Campus Plan for West Chester University is now ready for your review.
Much like our strategic plan, this update should be viewed as flexible and responsive to change. We welcome your input; please share your thoughts and suggestions, from small tweaks to big ideas. Feedback can be emailed to
