Curriculum Vitae
Dr. Spencer R. Camaro (he/him) is a dual-appointment faculty member at West Chester University, teaching music production courses within the Wells School of Music and leadership courses within the Honors College. In addition to technology courses, Dr. Camaro also supports the Department of Music Theory, Composition, and History through teaching courses in music theory and aural skills.
Living at the intersection of creativity and collaboration, Dr. Camaro holds degrees in music, education, technology, and leadership; disciplines that collectively shape his teaching philosophy. In both music and leadership courses, he actively engages students in exploring creativity and innovation, developing collaborative competencies, and making meaningful connections between their learning and lived experiences.
Dr. Camaro is an active contemporary a cappella specialist. Under the National Association of Music Education (NAfME), he is the inaugural director of a cappella festivals for both District 12 and District 4 within the Pennsylvania Music Education Association (PMEA) in addition to the 2026 PMEA All-State A Cappella Ensemble. Extending this work, Dr. Camaro founded the first PMEA Region 6 A Cappella Showcase, hosted at West Chester University for students from Districts 11 and 12.
Dr. Camaro also travels the country, annually presenting lectures and facilitating masterclasses at Contemporary A Cappella Society (CASA) weekend festivals such as Boston Sings (BOSS), the Los Angelas A Cappella Festival (LAAF), and Durham’s SoJam as well as at conferences like the A Cappella Education Association’s (AEA) National A Cappella & Choral Convention (NAAC) in Orlando and AcaTex outside Dallas.
Seeking to bring their visions to life, Dr. Camaro enjoys collaborating with both high school and collegiate a cappella groups nationwide, composing custom arrangements, producing several studio albums, and facilitating masterclasses for acclaimed groups like the Nor’easters, All Night Yahtzee, Sonic Edge, and many more.
As faculty for the Wells Summer Music Institute (WSMI), Dr. Camaro also teaches graduate-level courses in contemporary a cappella for master’s students and active music educators, including Foundations of Contemporary A Cappella. Together with his work through PMEA and the A Cappella Showcase, these experiences advance Dr. Camaro’s broader vision of expanding access of contemporary a cappella for students and their teachers across the state of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Camaro’s professional affiliations include PMEA, ACDA, ILA, and ALE.
