Curriculum Vitae
Dr. Sung Jin Park is a soprano and voice educator whose career spans opera, concert performance, contemporary vocal music, and higher education. Known for her clear, bright voice, versatile repertoire, and expressive stage presence, she has performed extensively in the United States and South Korea.
Dr. Park is a winner of the Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition and the Southern Illinois Young Artist Organization Vocal Competition. She has also received the Josephine L. LiPuma Scholarship from the CASA Italian Competition, the Bella Voce Award from the Bel Canto Competition, and the Verdell Frazier Young Award from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 2019, she received a Certificate of Commendation from Bergen County, New Jersey, in recognition of her contributions to the arts.
Her operatic roles include Violetta in La Traviata, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Mimì in La Bohème, Adina in L'elisir d'amore, and Giulietta in I Capuleti e i Montecchi. She also created the title role in the world premiere of Opera Bari with the Seoul Metropolitan Opera. As a concert artist, she has appeared as a soloist with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra and Gangnam Symphony Orchestra and has presented recitals and concerts in both the United States and South Korea.
Dr. Park's scholarly and artistic interests include contemporary vocal repertoire and innovative approaches to making classical music accessible to broader audiences. She has received support from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, and the National Research Foundation of Korea for performance and research projects.
As an educator, Dr. Park has taught applied voice, contemporary art song interpretation, English diction, vocal structure for singers, and music career development. She is committed to mentoring emerging singers and helping students develop both their artistry and professional skills.
Dr. Park holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Seoul National University, a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Binghamton University, SUNY, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she received a full scholarship. She currently serves on the voice faculty at West Chester University's Wells School of Music.
