Background Checks for New Hires

In January 2009, the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) established a Board of Governor's Policy, entitled "Background Checks," which requires member universities, including West Chester University, to conduct pre-employment criminal background checks on all selected candidates for employment. Questions regarding the Background Check Policy should be directed to Ann Travis at 610-436-3400.

In order to commence the criminal background check, please provide the selected candidate's first name, last name and email address to Ann Travis at Upon receipt, the system will then generate an email to the selected candidate to prompt him/her to enter his/her information. Once this information is input by the selected candidate, the criminal background check will run accordingly.

If the selected candidate currently does not have access to email/internet, the candidate can complete a criminal background check release form. Please contact Ann Travis to be provided with the form.

*Note: A criminal background check is not required for any individual who has worked at WCU within the past 12 months. If an individual will have contact with minors, then the background check requirements for WCU employees working with minors will still apply.
