- Volunteering at the same summer camp I attended when I was young was such a great experience. I loved being able to connect and learn about the lives of the kids in my local community.

- Teacher education makes me so excited to be a teacher and has opened my eyes to the impact I can make on the younger generation. Teacher ed has also shown me that I will learn new things from my students just as they will learn things from me.

- I had more opportunities to learn through my experience during my community service than my first few field placements. My teacher encouraged me to be very hands on and taught me a lot during the short amount of time I was there.
On Teacher Ed:
- I love teacher education because we have the opportunity to go into the field so early in our career! We get to learn through experience and see first-hand what we're learning in class! It makes the whole journey seem much more real being in the field.

- I loved being an Academic Coach for New Directions because the children with whom I worked with inspired me so much. It was such a valuable opportunity to work with students that were "underprivileged", they were so joyful and goofy that I couldn't help but smile the whole time I was there!
On Teacher Ed:
- Working with children is what makes me happiest, so I've known almost my whole life that I want to be an elementary school teacher. I'm so grateful that WCU gets us out into the field so early so that we can work in real classrooms and with real students, instead of just reading about them in textbooks.

- North Wales Elementary School - North Wales, PA
- Shadowing the Coordinator of School Climate and Character Education was an amazing experience as I was able to help teach students about how we can maintain a positive school climate and how to effectively communicate how they are feeling. What I loved about my community service was that I was able to see how my local school district was taking time out of their academics to teach the students important things about mental health and school unity.
On Teacher Ed:
- There are many things about my teacher education program that I enjoy tremendously, however the thing I like the most is that each and every one of my professors are truly dedicated to making us the best teachers we can possibly be. They are always there to help and guide us and it is something I greatly appreciate.

- I shadowed my cousin who is a middle grades math teacher for a few days and interacted with the class and helped teach lessons! This experience was amazing and helped me figure out that teaching the early grades is where I want to be.

- I truly enjoyed and looked forward to going to the Care Center each week. I got to know the staff and children there, and was able to build positive relationships with the children that I worked with.

- Helping in a first grade classroom, I worked with small groups, teaching lessons, as well as grading papers and creating bulletin boards. My favorite part of this was the teacher I worked with was so engaging and has been such a great resource that I’m still often in contact with her. She taught me so much about patience and how to manage a classroom.

- At the day care, I helped the teachers by entertaining the children, changing diapers, and any other tasks they needed help with. I loved that I was able to experience what I will be doing in the future.

- My favorite part of my community service was taking a trip to another elementary school and being one of the judges for the K'Nex project that the gifted students created. I got to interact with them one-on-one and learn how and why they created the project they did.
