‘The First 18 Months’

  • Event was hosted on Monday, February 24th 2020 at 5:00PM in Anderson 211 on the first year and a half of someone’s new first professional teaching position.
  • Event was hosted by the Community Service Ambassador Program and was open to all students, faculty, and staff in the Professional Teacher Education Unit. 
  • Many thanks to student teaching supervisors and other faculty in the department for helping to advertise out the event to their students.
  • Panelists included:

‘A Conversation on Technology in the Classroom’

    • Event was hosted on Thursday, February 28th 2019 at 3:30PM in Brandywine 033 on different topics related to the use of technology in teacher education.
    • Event was hosted by the Community Service Ambassador Program and was open to all students, faculty, and staff in the Professional Teacher Education Unit.
    • Panelists included:
      • Dr. Christian Penny – Professor, Education Foundations & Policy Studies
      • Mr. Steve Mancini – Supervisor of Information & Instructional Technology at New Castle Vocational Technical School
      • Mr. Dan Maguire -= Supervisor of Technology Services at Kennett Consolidated

 ‘EdTalks: Culturally Responsive Practices’

    • Event was hosted on Tuesday, October 15th 2019 at 3:30PM in Sykes 252 on Culturally Responsive Practices; topics related to how to better be able to understand and support students and others teachers might interact with from different socio-cultural-economic backgrounds.
    • Event was co-hosted by the Community Service Ambassador Program and the Department of Special Education with special guest speaker Dr. Lesley Siegel.

 ‘October Social: Pumpkin Carving’

    • Event was hosted on Saturday, October 12th 2019 in Wayne 107.
    • Event was one of the ‘social’ opportunities hosted by the Community Service Ambassador Program exclusively offered to student Ambassadors participating in the Program.

 

‘November Social: West Chester Excape Room’

    • Event was hosted on Saturday, November 16th 2019.
    • Event was one of the ‘social’ opportunities hosted by the Community Service Ambassador Program exclusively offered to student Ambassadors participating in the Program.

 

‘Holiday Social: Pollyanna Gift Exchange, Scavenger Hunt w/Prizes, & Plenty of Holiday Treats’

    • Event was hosted on Saturday, December 7th 2019.
    • Event was one of the ‘social’ opportunities hosted by the Community Service Ambassador Program exclusively offered to student Ambassadors participating in the Program.

‘Reading at Primrose’

    • Event was hosted on Friday, November 15th 2019 at 8AM.
    • Event was a travel and service excursion opportunity for student Ambassadors participating in the Program.
    • Students designed a short reading from a book with an accompanying activity for students aged 3-6 in a preschool.

‘Technology in the Classroom: A Look at 1:1 and Active Learning’

    • Event was hosted on Thursday, October 3rd 2019 at 1:00PM in Recitation Hall Rm 301 with topics related to how schools in the WCASD utilized different technology resources in their classrooms.
    • Event was co-hosted by the WCU Technology Center and the Community Service Ambassador Program.

‘EdTalks: A Panel Conversation on The Unified Arts Classrooms: Art, Music, Health & Physical Education, & Stem’

    • Event was hosted on Monday, November 4th 2019 in at 3:30PM in Sykes 117B on topics surrounding how teachers in these classrooms see their subject complimenting goals of their school/building, what works well in reaching children in their classrooms, what they think K-5 teachers in other subjects should know about the content they teach, and similar topics.
    • Event was hosted by the Community Service Ambassador Program with panelists including:
      • Ms. Joanne Trombley – Fugett – STEM Teacher
      • Angela Guerriero – WCU – Associate Professor in Music Ed
      • Maryanne Uhl – Kennett – Art Teacher
      • Matthew Cummiskey – WCU – Associate Professor in Kinesiology
      • Ryan Battin – New Garden – Music Teacher

‘A Conversation on Current Topics in Special Education’

    • Event was hosted on Thursday, April 25th at 5:30PM in Brandywine 033 on different topics affecting Special Education currently in surrounding school districts including LRE, inclusion, technology as a support for students with diabilities, etc.
    • Panelists included:
      • Tiffany Bendistis – Transition Coordinator
      • Thomas Fitti – Supervisor of Special Education
      • Melissa Hardas – Supervisor of Special Education
      • Victoria Domingo-Whitfield – LTS Special Education Teacher
