LatinaXo Communities Conference Focuses on Afro-LatinX and Caribbean Identities

Latino Conference ScheduleThis year’s “Building Bridges/Construyendo Puentes” LatinaXo Communities Conference focuses on celebrating Afro-Latinx and Caribbean identities, evoking the potential of diversity and intersectionality in our community. The conference will take place in a virtual format on Wednesday, September 29, which has opened the door for international presenters and attendees to participate.

True to its title of building bridges, this annual conference, now in its 13th year, is organized specifically to connect West Chester University’s people and resources with professionals, practitioners, and community members to address a wide range of issues concerning the LatinX population in Pennsylvania and beyond.

A full day of virtual presentations takes place on Wednesday. There are separate Zoom links for concurrent sessions.

Of particular note:

Keynote 11 a.m. Afrofeminismos para la equidad y el cambio radical / Afrofeminisms for Equity and Radical Change with Yolanda Arroyo Pizarro, author and activist.

Guest speaker 1 p.m. Geographies of AfroLatinidad with Amalia Dache, University of Pennsylvania

Invited artist 4 p.m. Changing Perceptions: A Photojournalist’s View at the U.S.-Mexico Border with David Maung, photojournalist

This annual interdisciplinary conference provides a creative space to enhance the understanding of Latina/o/x issues, contributions, and cultures. The conference is organized specifically to serve as a link between academia and local communities, institutions, and organizations.
