ISC Mission

West Chester University of Pennsylvania (WCU) is located in the center of Pennsylvania’s thriving Brandywine valley. Established in 1871 as a normal school for training teachers, the university has grown to a public, regional, comprehensive institution including five academic divisions: the Colleges of Arts and Humanities, Health Sciences, Business and Public Management, Sciences and Mathematics, Education and Social Work. During the 2011-12 academic-years, about 15,000 students pursued studies in more than 80 undergraduate fields of study and over 60 graduate, certificate and professional growth programs.

The Information Security Center (ISC), housed in the Computer Science Department is designated as one of the national centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEIAE). Its mission is to provide high quality education and training of information assurance. This is accomplished through the teaching, scholarly, and service activities via the collaboration and partnership with industry, public organizations and other institution. ISC also collaborates with the Internet Safety and Ethics Education and Knowledge Institute (ISEEK) which is devoted to scheduling events in the university level on campus to educate students, employees, and local school district personnel on issues relating to Internet Security and Ethics. In addition, ISC assists the Information Service Division at WCU in order to align the campus computer security policies and practices under the PASSHE (PA State System of Higher Education) standards.
