Dear West Chester University Community,
Thank you for your continued patience and support as our Information Services & Technology (IS&T) team works methodically to bring all University IT resources back online safely and as soon as possible. This weekend, we moved through the next phase of the network’s forensic assessment and continued to see no indication that Personally Identifiable Information (PII) has been compromised. Email, Microsoft Office, One Drive, Zoom, and D2L were not interrupted when IS&T proactively shut down access to many IT services last week, upon detecting unusual activity on the University’s network and IT systems. The University remains fully operational as remote class instruction continues.
As you know, IS&T’s fast action helped contain an external attempt to access the University’s systems. On Thursday, April 1, IS&T began installing new security software on University owned devices as part of our ongoing efforts to keep the University safe while returning to operational IT systems, services, and internet connectivity for campus buildings. We encourage you to visit https://www.wcupa.edu/infoservices/outage-032921.aspx for updated information about available systems, services, internet connectivity in buildings, and answers to your questions; this is a dynamic document that will be frequently updated.
Please know that all of us, including the divisions of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, are working together to mitigate the impact of this interruption on students. At this time, students are able to access myWCU, and necessary adjustments to the academic calendar have been made. Please visit https://www.wcupa.edu/infoservices/outage-032921.aspx for information on academic calendar adjustments.
If you have any questions, please contact the Help Desk through ServiceNow at https://www.wcupa.edu/servicenow.
Sincerely,
JT Singh
Senior Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer
