WCU To Graduate More than 3,000 at Spring Commencement Ceremonies

Commencement Ceremony 2023The University has organized 15 separate commencement ceremonies to accommodate more than 3,000* spring graduates and their guests.

The campus ceremonies take place between Friday, May 10, and Sunday, May 12, in Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall in Philips Memorial Building and Hollinger Field House.

There are 2,421 students* eligible to graduate at West Chester University’s undergraduate commencement ceremonies.

Undergraduate students will graduate by department and College. Also, two ceremonies for the 777 graduate-level candidates will take place on Saturday, May 11: The 3 p.m. ceremony in Hollinger for graduates of the College of Education and Social Work, Arts & Humanities, and the School of Music; and the 6 p.m. ceremony in Hollinger for graduates of the Colleges of Business & Public Management, Health Sciences, and Sciences & Mathematics.

In addition, several special ceremonies recognize specific graduating populations with the awarding of special stoles or cords prior to the commencement ceremonies.

  • This is the 32nd year for WCU to host a Kente celebration, which affirms and celebrates the cultural identity of students who identify as Alaskan Native, Asian and Asian American, Black and African American, Caribbean American, Desi American, Latina/o/x, Native American, Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and Multiracial. The service, at which Kente cloth stoles are awarded, takes place Thursday, May 9 at 6 p.m. in Hollinger Field House.
  • On May 9, the WCU Honors College hosts a service to award graduating students their cords. It takes place at 8 p.m. in Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall.

WCU’s Philadelphia location will host two commencement ceremonies for May and August 2024 graduates on Saturday, May 11, at the Hilton Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing. The undergraduate ceremony for 50 students will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the graduate ceremony for 66 students will begin at 12 p.m. and both will be livestreamed.

The procession for each hour-long ceremony begins 15 minutes prior to the ceremony start time. Tickets are required for guests three years of age and older. All ceremonies will be livestreamed.

* Combined with the numbers of graduates from the University’s fall commencement last December, WCU has graduated a total of 4,365 students (both undergraduate and graduate) for the academic year 2023-2024: 3,315 undergraduates and 1,050 graduates.
