Dept. of Art + Design: Unveiling the Artistry of Student Work
It’s that time of year when West Chester University Art + Design students showcase their talents and works at events that are open to the public.
David Jones, Chair of the Dept. of Art + Design says, “West Chester University students are consistently awarded for their creativity and skill and now members of the campus and surrounding communities are invited to see their work exhibited. The end of the semester is a celebration of the hard work and creativity of these extraordinary young artists and designers as we launch them into their post-graduate careers .”
First is the Design Senior Thesis Show taking place on Thursday, April 25, from 4-6 p.m. p.m. at the Mainstage Theater, E.O. Bull Center for the Arts, 2 E. Rosedale Avenue, West Chester. This premier event features Senior Thesis projects by B.F.A. candidates in the Graphic and Interactive Design program. It encompasses a wide range of mediums from web and interactive experiences to branding and motion design. The evening will be capped with a presentation from 6:30-7 p.m. by guest speaker and esteemed designer, Mike Smith, Principal of Smith and Diction.
Opening on Wednesday, May 1, is the Department of Art + Design’s Senior B.F.A. Studio Artists Exhibit from 5 – 7 p.m. The B.F.A. Exhibit displays the works of senior painters, ceramicists, and more. The exhibit is on display in both campus galleries: the John H. Baker Gallery, E.O. Bull Center for the Arts, 2 E. Rosedale Avenue, and in the Knauer Gallery, Swope Music Building and Performing Arts Center, 817 S. High Street, West Chester. The exhibit is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm through the end of May.
Also on May 1 is the Art + Design Student Award Picnic. From 1 – 2:30 p.m., Art + Design faculty and students enjoy food and live music as they recognize distinguished students with scholarships and awards. The potluck/bbq luncheon is free to all and open to all undergraduate majors and minors in the Art + Design program. This event takes place on the Sculpture Bay Patio outside the E.O. Bull Center, 2 E. Rosedale Avenue, West Chester.
