WCU’s Office Of Sustainability Hosts 2nd Annual Zero Waste Summit on April 10
WCU’s Office of Sustainability (OoS) will host the 2nd Annual Zero Waste Summit on Wednesday, April 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the ballroom of the Sykes Student Union, 110 West Rosedale Avenue, West Chester, PA. The event is FREE and open to the public. Registration is not required.
The Zero Waste Summit is an event for students, faculty, staff, and members of the surrounding community who want to learn more about what they can do to live a low or zero waste lifestyle. This year’s theme is “Planet vs. Plastic.”
Professor of Dance at WCU and Chair of the Zero Waste Committee Gretchen Studlien-Webb says, “The Zero Waste Summit seeks to educate and inform attendees who might be thinking about how to live a lower-waste or zero-waste lifestyle. Many people are curious and even willing but don’t know where to start or need a little guidance. We are hoping that the informational tables, activities, and programmed speakers can provide a jumping-off point or serve as a refresher so that we all might be more aware of the small but impactful changes we can make in our everyday lives.”
Keynote speakers are Savannah Robledo and Ramiro Murguia from Post Landfill Action Network (PLAN), part of the Sustainability Research and Practice Seminar series. They will speak on “A Campus Beyond Zero Waste." PLAN equips students with the resources and tools necessary to holistically understand the waste crisis and lead solutions on their campuses.
Tables include This vs. That, a presentation that compares zero- or lower-waste household products with their higher-waste alternatives, a thrift store pop-up, a DIY table that provides recipes and samples of DIY low-waste products, library and voter resources, giveaways, student research presentations, repair and up-cycling, and more!
The schedule of events includes:
11 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Interactive activities and discussions at educational and activity tables, snacks, and a visit from RAMMY
12 p.m. – 1 p.m. – Keynote Speakers
1 p.m. – 2 p.m. – Informational tables, activities, and snacks resume
