Center for Women & Gender Equity Hosts Fourth Annual Gender Justice Conference
The Center for Women and Gender Equity (CWGE) presents the Fourth Annual Gender Justice Conference, a free, all-day, in-person event for students, on Wednesday, April 3, in Sykes Student Union.
The conference will offer a space to reflect and map lineage of identities through lived experiences and chosen families and aims to center marginalized identities through its keystone and featured speakers: author Haley Jakobson and queer activist and stand-up comedian Hayden Kristal.
At 12 p.m. in Sykes Ballrooms, Jakobson will discuss in person her book Old Enough, a coming-of-age novel centered around a queer main character’s search for community.
At 7 p.m., Kristal will host a virtual performance of their Laugh Out Loud program, highlighting the intersections of comedy and social justice.
This year’s conference theme is Gender Journeys: Engaging Heritages, Society, and Expansive Gender. Breakout sessions will focus on bodily autonomy, safety, intersections of identity, radical self-care, and community care. The conference will also feature a sensory space, ASL interpreters, and therapy dogs from the Counseling Center.
Registration information for the conference and discussions can be found on the CWGE RamConnect page or @wcu_cwge on Instagram.
