Second Annual Sustainability Showcase Is January 29
At West Chester University, sustainability is much more than recycling, carpooling, planting native trees, and turning off lights when a room isn’t in use. Learn how sustainability is interwoven throughout the campus community at the second annual Sustainability Showcase on Monday, January 29, in Sykes Student Union Ballrooms.
From 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., meet staff from the Office of Sustainability, members of the Sustainability Council, and representatives from programs and student organizations dedicated to advancing WCU’s environmental, social, and economic sustainability. The event offers the campus community information and connections for those interested and curious about sustainable practices, programs, and more at WCU — plus there will be vegan food, music courtesy of WCUR, and a chance to meet Rammy.
Aliza Richman, chair of the Sustainability Council and associate professor of anthropology and sociology, notes, “We reached out to more social justice sustainability groups on campus and have a broader variety of groups represented this year.” Among those broad interests: the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity; the recently launched Bicycle Lending Library (BLL); and the Rustin Urban Community Change AxiS (RUCCAS).
Interested in upcycled fashion? The student group Veg Out is hosting a clothing swap during the showcase and there’s no need to bring an item in order to participate.
Curious about academic programs that align with sustainability? Representatives will be there to talk about RUCCAS; the Applied Community and Environmental Sustainability (ACES) Minor; and other courses.
Want to find other students who share your interests? Use RamConnect to learn more about the student clubs and organizations mentioned here.
Questions? Reach out to the Office of Sustainability.
The next meeting of the Sustainability Council is Friday, February 2, when the meeting will open with a special ceremony unveiling the Gold LEED certification for the Science and Engineering Center and The Commons.
