Dept. of Art + Design Exhibits THE QUILT: PIECING TOGETHER FAMILY, HISTORY, AND LOVE Through December 10The Quilt

West Chester University’s Department of Art + Design opened a new public exhibit on Monday, October 25. THE QUILT: PIECING TOGETHER FAMILY, HISTORY, AND LOVE will exhibit through December 10, 2021, in John H. Baker Gallery, E.O. Bull Center for the Arts, 2 E. Rosedale Avenue, West Chester.  An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, from 4 – 7 p.m.

Curator and Associate Professor of Theatre Constance Case says, “Quilts have become works of art and their makers are artists. No longer solely an object of warmth and protection, quilts are a tactile and powerful reminder of our history. Quilts tell a story, capture a moment and connect us to each other. The quilts on display have a story to tell or hold a special memory. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, the quilts explore the relationship of quilts to family, history and comfort.”

Participating artists include: Esther Beechy, Janice Bradley, Constance Case, Jeanie Davey, Amy Eckert, The Evans Family, Doris Field, Ellen Seiger Krammes, Beechy McDowell, Emma Meck, Opal Welson Millay, Deborah L. Pederson, Megan Ramer, Roma Bretz Sieger, The Sickora Family, Janneken Smucker, Gail C. Thorwart, Amish Quilters of Perry County.

The Baker Gallery is open for public viewings Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

All faculty, staff, students, and visitors, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth when indoors. Face masks may be worn when outdoors, but it is not an obligation of this policy notice. Mask and COVID-19 safety measures at West Chester University will continue to be updated here.
