25th Banana Day Will be a Bunch of In-Person & Virtual Fun on Wednesday, April 21!

Pre-Final Stress Buster Is a WCU Tradition

For 25 years, West Chester University students have been going absolutely bananas over Banana Day --- a special rite of spring for the Golden Rams that acts as a pre-final stress buster and celebrates the nutritious fruit in lots of zany ways. This Wednesday, April 21, 11 am – 3 p.m., in-person, socially-distanced banana fun will take place in Sykes Student Union, located at 110 West Rosedale Avenue, where students will compete in the annual Banana Toss, hunt for hidden “golden bananas,” play Banana Trivia using QR codes, and take photos in a special Banana Day photo booth.

The virtual space will go bananas, too, as students use social media platforms to compete in Bingo Banana Board, Banana Day Word Search, Banana Bake-off, and more. There will even be three special rounds of Banana Kahoot Trivia played on Zoom at 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, and 6pm.

Why does everyone at WCU go bananas over Banana Day each year? It’s all about the t-shirt… The Banana Day t-shirt is a secret design-in-the-making every year. As a very limited edition, the specially-designed t-shirt is coveted and given only to the winners of banana games — until they last.

A great stress-reducer for West Chester University students prior to final semester exams, Banana Day was founded in 1996 by WCU alumnus Rodolfo “Rudy” Tellez, who organized the distribution of thousands of bananas across campus to celebrate WCU spirit.

Banana Day is organized each year by the University’s Student Activities Council and is shared via Instagram instagram.com/wcusac/ and Facebook facebook.com/wcustudentactivities
