Unmute YourselfTheatre Department Plans Student-Led, Live, Virtual Performance

Students in the Department of Theatre have a unique opportunity to participate in an original, student-led, virtual performance this fall.

UNMUTE YOURSELF, directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre Charlie Delmarcelle, will explore the challenges, struggles, strategies, and peculiarities of trying to communication and connect in an isolated, polarized, world. The production’s content, format, design and delivery will be devised entirely by the student ensemble; who all will create and collaborate remotely.

Delmarcelle says, “We don’t know exactly what this piece will be, but we think now is the time for artists to evolve, learn, and respond to all that is happening in our world. Our hope is that UNMUTE YOURSELF will be at times funny, absurd, and honest, and that it gives voice to students trying to communicate what it feels like to be human in 2020.”

Students wishing to audition are asked to submit via video a list of requirements found here no later than August 26th.

Delmarcelle adds, “This is also the perfect time to familiarize our students with proper audition and film technique for video submissions, which is fast becoming standard-practice in our industry.”

Rehearsals begin September 1, and two live virtual performances will be held on Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24 at 7:30pm. Performances are free with donations encouraged. Check www.wcupa.edu/arts for details and links to performances.
