WCU’s Annual Banana Day Features Virtual Banana Fun this Year!

Pre-Final Stress-Buster Is a 24-Year-Old WCU Tradition

Banana Day will not be mashed by COVID-19! West Chester University’s annual Banana Day will be even more bananas this year as the rite of spring is shared all over the world via Instagram @wcusac, Facebook @wcustudentactivities, Twitter @WCU_SAC, and Snapchat SACWCUPA on Wednesday, April 15, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.! A pre-final stress buster that is a 24-year-old tradition at the University, Banana Day celebrates the nutritious fruit in zany, creative ways. This year as it defies COVID-19, virtually all of WCU’s banana fun will take center stage on social media platforms as students compete in banana-themed Tik Tok dance videos, take on Banana Rap challenges, hunt for golden bananas in a specially-designed "Where's Waldo" image, and more. There will even be three special rounds of Banana Kahoot Trivia played on Zoom at 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, and 6pm. WCU Banana Day 2020

Why does everyone at WCU go bananas over Banana Day each year? It’s all about the t-shirt… The Banana Day t-shirt is a secret design-in-the making every year. As a limited edition with only a quantity of 1,600, the specially-designed t-shirts are coveted and given only to the winners of banana games — until they last. This year’s Banana Day t-shirts are under lock and key, and will be distributed in the fall.

A great stress-reducer for West Chester University students prior to final semester exams, Banana Day was founded in 1996 by WCU alumnus Rodolfo “Rudy” Tellez, who organized the distribution of thousands of bananas across campus as a way to celebrate WCU spirit. April 15, 2020 marks the first time in history that WCU’s Banana Day will be held virtually. Banana Day is organized each year by the University’s Student Activities Council.
