WCU's Wind Symphony Wins Prestigious Performance Spot at Annual Conference
Through an anonymous taped audition process, West Chester University’s Wind Symphony was one of six bands chosen to perform at the annual College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) Eastern Division Conference on February 21 and 22 at Temple University. The WCU performance is Friday, February 21 at 2:45 p.m. at the Temple Performing Arts Center.
64 West Chester students will travel to Philadelphia and perform under the direction of West Chester’s M. Gregory Martin, Associate Professor of Music Education and Associate Director of Bands, and Adam J. Gumble, Director of Athletic Bands.
Martin says, “This is quite an honor as well as a great experience for our Wind Symphony students. The selection process is competitive, particularly in the Eastern Division. Our band’s selection is a testament to the depth of talent we have here at West Chester’s Wells School of Music.”
The band will perform three significant early works written for the Wind Band medium by master composers Vincent Persichetti (Symphony No. 6 for Band), Peter Mennin (Canzona) and Samuel Barber (Commando March). Jennifer Higdon’s Kelly’s Field will also be performed.
