WCU's Dept. of Theatre & Dance Presents
FALL DANCE CONCERT
West Chester University Department of Theatre & Dance, in cooperation with The College of Arts and Humanities and the University Dance Company, presents a FALL DANCE CONCERT on November 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m., and November 9 at 2 p.m., in the Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre, Swope Music Building and Performing Arts Center, 817 S. High St., West Chester. Gretchen Studlien-Webb directs the concert, titled Continuity. Tickets are $12 at www.wcupatix.com.
Approximately 53 students will move together in the concert of primarily modern and contemporary dance with elements of jazz, ballet and African dance. Ten visually stunning, thought-provoking and emotional works are performed as separate pieces yet linked together through the bond of the movement experience, inspiring the concert’s title, Continuity.
Faculty members Gretchen Studlien-Webb and Liz Staruch choreographed two of the pieces,
with four guest artists and four returning student choreographers adding to the body
of work. Guest choreographers include Jillian Glace ‘08, who earned a minor in Dance
at WCU and a Dance/Movement Therapy degree from Drexel University; Shannon Bramham,
a former company member of the Koresh Dance Company; Kareem B. Goodwin and Denise
Murphy.
Studlien-Webb says, “The opportunity to work with a diverse group of guest choreographers
from the Greater Philadelphia area provides WCU students with a valuable learning
experience, and offers connections in the professional dance arena.”
The WCU student choreographers - all seniors and returning choreographers for the department – include Kourtney Kukowski, Julia Rizzo, Zoe Weiss and DenNira Whitley. Whitley also collaborates with faculty member Studlien-Webb on her solo piece.
