West Chester, PA – Five collegiate a cappella singing groups from around the region will unite to perform a benefit concert on Friday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m., in West Chester University’s Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall, 700 S. High Street, West Chester. Admission is $5 at the door.

The student-led effort is the second annual Your Voice Benefit Concert, or YOVO, which benefits the Dreaming Zebra Foundation, a non-profit that provides art & music supplies to underprivileged children from around the world.

West Chester’s Under A Rest and High Street Harmonix will perform, as well as OwlCappella and LiaChorus from Temple University, and the Trentones from The College of New Jersey. All five groups were semifinalist in the Varsity Vocal’s Mid-Atlantic International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA.) The West Chester University Dance Team will also perform.

Spencer Camacho, Under A Rest’s Music Director and a Music Education/Keyboards double major at West Chester says, “I was a member of the team that produced the first YOVO benefit concert last April. Many Under A Rest members have traveled internationally, some for service projects. We wanted to choose a beneficiary that helps give underprivileged children worldwide a voice and outlet for creativity and self-expression.”

Eight baskets that include over $400 in gift certificates from 23 West Chester businesses will be raffled off during the evening, with all proceeds benefitting Dreaming Zebra.

Camacho adds, “Our hope is that this benefit continues to grow and thrive. Last year we raised $1,000 and we hope to exceed that this year. We also hope to double the attendance.”
