Two West Chester Wells School of Music Trumpet Ensembles to Compete at National Competition
Two Trumpet Ensembles from West Chester’s esteemed Wells School of Music will make their way to Kentucky over Spring Break to compete in the National Trumpet Competition at the University of Kentucky. The National Trumpet Competition is the largest and one of only two trumpet ensemble competitions in the world.
Both West Chester ensembles will compete in the Small Ensemble (up to six members) quarterfinals on Thursday, March 14. They’ll face off against each other, as well as 38 other ensembles from music schools around the country including University of North Texas, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Eastman School of Music, Florida State University, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, University of Miami, Vanderbilt University, Temple University, Duquesne University, and others.
On the program for the Gold ensemble is Circus Scenes by American composer, Joe Price. The Purple ensemble will perform two movements from Cocktail by Jerôme Naulais, written for the Paris Trumpet Ensemble.
Dr. Jean-Christophe Dobrzelewski is the Professor of the Trumpet Program at West Chester. He says, “Our students’ constant dedication, support for each other and love for their field, make us so proud. I started teaching here in 2006, and since that time, it has been a great honor to have groups accepted into this competition four out of five times.”
Dobrzelewski teaches at the Wells School of Music along with Professor Robert Skoniczin.
