About the Accessibility Menu
The accessibility menu on the public-facing WCU website allows users to turn on and off different website features. Access the accessibility menu by going to the button at the top of the page labeled 'Menu'. When the menu opens, choose 'Accessibility Settings' which is located at the top of the open menu. These changes are made client-side only (in the user's browser) and only affect that specific user. When the settings are saved, data is written to the browser's local storage so that the experience is persistent when changing pages, refreshing pages, or restarting the browser. The addition of this accessibility menu is an enhancement, not a replacement for our commitment to achieving WCAG 2.1AA compliance.
The following features are available for users to turn on or off:
- Text-Only Mode removes all images, icons, WCU styling, etc. are removed from the page.
- Remove Animation will remove animations where objects come from off-screen, numbers that count, etc.
- Remove WCU Fonts will remove the styled fonts and the browser will switch back to its default fonts.
- Remove Scrolling FX will remove parallax scrolling effects. This is a scrolling effect achieved where part of the page seems to stay still while other parts of the page scroll.
- Auto-Pause Videos will stop video-only media from playing automatically. Regardless of this setting, videos on the WCU website which include audio always require a user interaction to begin playback.
Saving the settings will close the menu and the changes will take place immediately. Certain features, such as switching out of text-only mode, require the page to reload and will be done automatically once the settings are saved.
The button to Restore WCU Settings will toggle all of the fields back to the initial 'off' position.
