Homecoming 2023 - Tailgating Protocol

To the WCU Alumni Community,

West Chester University ("WCU" or "University") recognizes that University Homecoming athletic events are an important part of the University experience. As such, the University encourages safe and responsible socializing for those students, alumni, and fans who attend these events. This includes support for tailgating and other Homecoming activities that build community, show support for student-athletes, and offer opportunities for social interaction. The University expects that all members of the University community who participate in tailgating (including students and guests) will abide by local, state, and federal law, as well as WCU policies and procedures. A tailgating participant who violates any of these policies is subject to disciplinary action. Every individual participating in tailgating must act in a safe and responsible manner that allows everyone to enjoy University Homecoming and athletic events. Therefore, this communication is to provide information about the upcoming Homecoming tailgating events.

We are excited to welcome our valued alumni home to reconnect and enjoy the Ram Spirit of Homecoming. There are some modifications to the tailgating policy that will be implemented for the Homecoming game only.

The University has an obligation to prioritize safety during any event, especially Homecoming. We recognize the traditions that many groups of alumni and students have created over the years, therefore, the modifications described below were agreed upon from conversations involving the Office of Alumni Engagement, WCU Alumni Association, the Black Alumni Chapter, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, the Dowdy Multicultural Center, the Department of Public Safety, Athletics, and the Division of Student Affairs. The Department of Public Safety has oversight of students’ and participants’ safety, which remains the primary focus for these modifications.

Location (Campus map for Lot information available online here.)

  • WCU Alumni Association Tailgate (formerly in R Lot) is now moved to N Lot.
  • All other tailgating activities are remaining in lower Q Lot.  Parking spots are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Time (Game starts at 2:00PM)

The parking lots will open at 8:00AM and all tailgating activity must conclude no later than 7:00PM.

Amplified Sound

Out of respect for the hundreds of athletes and band members that work tirelessly to represent our University, there is no amplified sound permitted in the parking lots. However, amplified sound will be permitted following the game, but must end at 7:00PM.

Recreational Vehicles (RVs)

RVs and trailers must register with the WCU Athletic Department by the close of the business day prior to arrival by calling 610-436-3555. These vehicles may be directed to park in appropriate areas as directed by Public Safety officers.

Please read the University's official tailgating policy . Should you have any questions or concerns about this matter, please contact  Terry Beattie, Director of Athletics.
