4 Ways to Use the Twardowski Career Development Center

I'm always excited to have the opportunity to share information about the Career Development Center and how we support students.
When you consider our name, I'm going to ask you to focus more attention on the word development, which tells you that careers are something you explore, try on for size, change your mind about, reflect upon, and learn as you go.
If you're wondering where to begin, here are some examples of what you can do to jump start you career exploration and development. The best part of all is that each of these recommendations are available to you in person or virtually!
- Take a few minutes to note what you like doing (interests), what you're good at doing (skills), and what is important to you (values). The Career Development Center has career assessments to help you get started. We have an interest assessment that is available to both students who have committed to WCU, as well as those who are just beginning to explore colleges.
- If you've committed to WCU, log in to Handshake using your university username and password to explore on and off campus jobs, upload your resume for a professional review, or view upcoming career-related events.
- Schedule a one-on-one appointment with a career counselor to start making a plan for your career exploration and professional development.
- Remember that experience comes in many shapes and forms. Take advantage of opportunities and resources that are available to you throughout your time in college. For example, join clubs and organizations, study abroad, volunteer, participate in research, or conduct informational interviews or job shadows with alumni through Ram Nation.
Keep in mind that investing in your career development doesn't have to take a lot of time, but it does take intention. Be intentional, and you'll be setting yourself up for future success!
