Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health at WCU prepares students for careers dedicated to the protection of human health and the environment. Our program focuses on sustainability through human cooperation with nature, including the basic rights to a safe home and workplace; clean water supplies for human consumption, recreation and wildlife; safe and available food supply; waste and energy management; and careful resource management for the future. The BS program prepares students for both the technical and professional demands of the field through classroom training in topics such as toxicology, risk assessment, water quality, industrial hygiene, emergency preparedness, environmental regulations, hazardous waste operations, bioterrorism, and hands-on opportunities through research and internships with government agencies, private industry, environmental consulting firms, and non-profit agencies.
