This position will provide general assistance with:
Provide support in the Resource Pantry by assisting with daily operations and future planning.
Specific duties as they relate to this department:
Student will greet clients warmly and provide polite and professional service. They will help direct clients to which resources are available. Students will also sort through donations and help with keeping track of inventory. In regards to future planning students will help with designing updates for social media and the website as well as helping with the creation of any promotional materials for programs related to the Resource Pantry.
Learning Outcomes:
Students will learn data input skills, customer service skills, and how the daily operation of a food pantry supports people in need.

This position will provide general assistance with:
Assist with the coordination of the Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Program’s Alternative Break program
Specific duties as they relate to this department:
-Attend Alternative Break Organization meetings -Provide training and support to trip leaders to ensure all 8 components of Alternative Breaks are met in a meaningful way -Promote alternative break trips to students, faculty, staff, and community members -Represent the Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs at on and off campus events and programs. -Research various social issues and cultures
Learning Outcomes:
The Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs is dedicated to fostering student growth. The student in this position will learn the following professional skills while working with the Alternative Breaks program: time management, organization, e-mail etiquette, communication skills, working in a team, event planning, budgeting, and marketing. Students will also learn a great deal about societal issues, addressing community needs, and active citizenship. Students who are interested in social work, public service, public relations, and careers for the common good will gain valuable skills working in our office.

This position will provide general assistance with:
General office duties such as data entry, reception/answering telephone phones, typing, filing, copying, faxing, and scanning. Maintain high degree of confidentiality of materials and information of the department. Assist with on-going and special projects as needed.
Specific duties as they relate to this department:
Other duties include: • Assist with large scale volunteer events (Volunteer Fair, MLK Jr. Day of Service) • Answer phones • Produce, distribute, and post flyers for upcoming events • Assist with the service-learning club and course reports • Manage bulletin boards • Post entries in social media outlets • Write articles for the department newsletter and blog • Assist students who walk into the office looking to volunteer • Other duties as assigned
Learning Outcomes:
The Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs is dedicated to fostering student growth. Students who work in our office learn customer service skills, event planning, and public relations. They also have the opportunity to work with different non-profit agencies and to assist with community service projects. Students who are interested in social work, public service, public relations, and careers for the common good will gain valuable skills working in our office.

Ideally, education students who would benefit from experience in Secondary Education would be a good fit for this.

The Melton Center in coordination with the America Reads Program and the Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs at WCU *America Reads is an academic enrichment program that sends college students out into the community to mentor youth in local after-school and childcare programs. College students serving as mentors build positive relationships with children, provide homework assistance, enhance social skill development of youth, and facilitate educational games and extracurricular activities while developing their own professional skills* *The mission of the historic Charles A. Melton Center is to contribute to the quality of life for all people of the greater West Chester community by continuing its long commitment of providing educational, recreational, cultural, and civic services*
Specific duties as they relate to this department:
- Office support, clerical duties, helping with the planning and coordinating of three Melton Center events (Gala, Summer Basketball Programs, and Community Day)

Students will gain valuable experience in event planning and coordination, general office support and clerical duties.
