About Layna
While working to complete my degree at Virginia Commonwealth University. I worked volunteered with AmeriCorps and provided support in a local elementary in Richmond, Virginia. It was at that time that I learned the complexity of barriers and challenges in the black and brown community that often impacts the learning of the children in early educational years. I worked to help bring awareness to the staff in the school and members of the community and made this a passion for any community I was lead to serve.
Working in the field for the past 14 years has provided a variety of experiences from crisis/inpatient assessments, direct care, program management/development, and training in various settings. In leadership and as a former field instructor my passion was to ensure those who were supporting families were able to ensure their wellness was a priority. The communities that have the most support are able to ensure those individuals serving are supported.
