West Chester University’s INCOMPARABLE Golden Rams Marching Band will return to the Bands of America Grand National Championships November 12–14, marking its third appearance at the prestigious national event. Directed by Dr. Adam J. Gumble, the INCOMPARABLE Golden Rams will perform its 2026 field production, The Threads That Bind U.S., in exhibition at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Saturday, November 14.

The band’s performance will close the Semi-Finals of the Music for All Bands of America Grand National Championships, which brings together the nation’s top high school marching bands from 22 states. This year, 98 High School bands will participate. West Chester University’s band is one of two featured collegiate exhibition bands for this year’s event.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our students to represent West Chester University and the Wells School of Music on a national stage,” said Adam Gumble, WCU’s Director of Athletic Bands.  “Grand Nationals brings together some of the most talented high school musicians and music educators in the country. We’re excited not only to perform for them, but also to connect with students and share our passion for music education along the way.”

The “RamBand’s” 2026 show, The Threads That Bind U.S., is scheduled for approximately 4 p.m. EST on November 14th.

Gumble says, “In honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary, The Threads That Bind U.S. explores the connection to the ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness - ideals present at the nation's founding that we still strive toward today.”

Following its exhibition performance, West Chester will join Western Carolina University for a combined performance of the national anthem to open Saturday evening’s Finals. The two universities’ drumlines will also perform together during the Finals Retreat as the finalist bands take the field for awards.

The 2026 appearance marks the INCOMPARABLE Golden Rams return to Grand Nationals following previous performances in 2009 and 2018.

Bringing music education to Pennsylvania high schools

The journey to Indianapolis will also serve as an opportunity for the INCOMPARABLE Golden Rams to give back to Pennsylvania’s music education community. On Thursday, November 12, approximately 350 student members, along with faculty and staff, will travel west on seven buses, stopping at high schools across the state to lead free music clinics and masterclasses.

The outreach initiative, called Mobile RamCamp Outreach, or the Road to Indy Clinics, brings the hands-on learning experience of West Chester University’s summer RamCamp directly to high school music programs. WCU faculty will lead instructional sessions while RamBand student leaders work alongside high school musicians, offering peer mentorship and practical guidance tailored to each program.

The clinics will include stops at Hershey High School and Cedar Crest High School in central Pennsylvania, as well as North Hills, North Allegheny, and Bethel Park high schools in the Pittsburgh area.

The clinics provide valuable teaching experience for WCU music education majors while introducing high school students to the opportunities available through the Wells School of Music.

A national tradition of excellence

The INCOMPARABLE Golden Rams Marching Band is the largest student organization at West Chester University, with approximately 350 members representing more than 60 academic majors. In 2019, the band received the Sudler Trophy, the highest national honor for a collegiate marching band, becoming the first NCAA Division II program to earn the distinction.

The INCOMPARABLE Golden Rams have performed at nationally recognized events and venues, including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, NFL playoff games at Lincoln Financial Field, the 135th Rose Parade in Pasadena, California, and Bands of America regional and national championships.
