WCU Symphony Orchestra Opens 2026-27 Season on October 2
WCUSO Celebrates America Features East Coast Premiere of Our America by School of Music Faculty Member Ovidiu Marinescu
The West Chester University Symphony Orchestra will open its 2026-27 season on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall, Philips Memorial Building, 700 S. High St., West Chester. The concert is free and open to the public. The concert will also be livestreamed at vimeo.com/wsom.
Conducted by maestro Paul Bryan, the Symphony Orchestra will present WCUSO Celebrates America, an all-American program featuring music by Elmer Bernstein, John Williams, Samuel Barber, and WCU faculty member Ovidiu Marinescu. The concert will feature the East Coast premiere of Marinescu’s Our America, with WCU faculty member Robert Skoniczin on trumpet.
The program concludes with Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, featuring West Chester University President Laurie Bernotsky as narrator. The work combines orchestral music with excerpts from the speeches and writings of President Abraham Lincoln.
