Introducing One Stop

A New Way to Support Student Success

Student getting help at One StopThe new One Stop Student Service Center on the ground floor of Francis Harvey Green Library adjacent to Starbucks is a different way of serving students. By reducing barriers, simplifying processes, and providing caring, coordinated support, One Stop addresses students’ challenges before they become obstacles and roadblocks. It’s a collaborative model that reinforces a simple but powerful message for every student: You belong here. You’ve got this. We’ve got you.

Overseen by Dr. Tammy James, special assistant to the president for student engagement and retention, a team is making campus services more accessible and coordinated, removing unnecessary barriers, and creating more opportunities for every student to succeed. Staff interactions help students feel welcomed, supported, and connected. The site is open to all students Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Designed around a student well-being model, One Stop provides a welcoming, centralized location where students can receive assistance with questions related to financial aid and paying for college, how to register for classes, living on and off campus, student life, and other essential services. During the pilot phase this fall, a cross-trained team will help students navigate these areas, resolve many concerns in a single visit, and connect them with the right resources when additional support is needed.

Dr. James says the team is a “high-energy, student-centered staff ready to create an exceptional experience for students. We’re here to address students’ issues in real time so they don’t have to visit multiple campus locations to find a single answer. The One Stop will reduce the time until service since we’ll triage requests as students arrive.”

The team is using the Navigate platform and will jump on Teams meetings as needed to ensure students have the answers they need before they leave One Stop. “It looks different because we bring that warm hand-off to the student. It’s more collaborative now,” says Dr. James.

The One Stop Student Support Center reflects President Dr. Laurie Bernotsky’s Action Plan, in which the University community is challenged to be better, think bigger, and foster moments that strengthen every student’s experience.

University faculty and staff are encouraged to refer students to One Stop whenever they need help finding answers or navigating University processes. The campus community is invited to partner with the One Stop team to work together to provide a seamless, student-centered experience.
