Baseball Selected as Top-Seed at National Finals
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released the Division II Baseball
National Finals bracket on Sunday afternoon. The NCAA Division II Baseball committee
reseeds the eight Regional Champions to set the schedule for the National Finals at
the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary and West Chester (44-10) was selected
as the number one overall seed heading into the Tournament on Friday. The top-seeded
Golden Rams will face the University of Indianapolis (UIndy) in their first game in
Cary since 2022 on Friday night at 6 p.m.
West Chester will face U Indy, who completed an improbable run through the Midwest
Regional as the seventh seed after starting the Regional with a loss to Illinois-Springfield
in the opening game. The Golden Rams and Greyhounds have not met since March 2012,
when West Chester swept a doubleheader in Davenport, Florida, with 11-2 and 7-1 victories
over UIndy.
West Chester is 54-40 in the NCAA Tournament in its history, entering play on Friday
night after going 5-0 through the Atlantic Regional Tournament, and is also 11-6 in
National Finals appearances, with the team's last appearance coming in 2022, when
the Golden Rams went 2-2.
With a win on Friday night, West Chester will advance in the Winners Bracket to start
the National Finals for the first time since 2017 and will face the winner of #4 Central
Missouri vs #5 Texas-Tyler on Sunday, May 31 at 6 p.m. With a loss, West Chester would
play its first elimination game of the Tournament at 1:30 on Sunday afternoon.
The Finals bracket is split into two four-team brackets, with the bracket, including
defending National Champion Tampa, who is the second seed, along with third-seeded
Catawba, sixth-seeded Point Loma, and seventh-seeded Bentley, who is the lone other
regional one seed to advance to Cary.
