West Chester University Dance Company Presents the Spring Dance Concert
April 23 – 25, 2026, in the Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre
West Chester University's (WCU) Department of Theatre & Dance and the University Dance Company is proud to present its annual Spring Dance Concert, a vibrant celebration of student choreography and performance. Featuring 78 dancers and 12 choreographers, performances take place Thursday, April 23, and Friday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, April 25 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre, Swope Music Building and Performing Arts Center, 817 S. High Street, West Chester. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, available at the door or online at www.wcupatix.com.
Showcasing the creative work of West Chester University students, the concert features choreography by 10 student artists, alongside guest choreographer Tammy Carrasco and faculty member Maria Urrutia, Associate Professor of Dance at WCU.
The program spans a wide range of styles, including contemporary, cabaret (with Fosse-inspired influences), and entertainment-driven dance, offering audiences a dynamic and engaging performance experience. Several works draw inspiration from MTV-era music video aesthetics, channeling the iconic styles of artists like Janet Jackson and Britney Spears, while reimagining them through a contemporary lens.
“This concert is a celebration of movement, storytelling, and the energy our students bring to the stage,” says Urrutia. “It is uplifting, inspiring, and the perfect way to welcome Spring while honoring the dedication and creativity of our students.”
This year’s concert mixes humorous themes with bold theatricality. Urrutia’s own choreographic work incorporates cabaret-style storytelling with comedic double entendres, set to the music of Richard Cheese. Another standout piece features a striking reinterpretation of U2’s Sunday Bloody Sunday, set to a mambo rhythm, offering a thought-provoking take on a politically charged classic.
Audiences are invited to experience the energy and artistry of WCU’s student dancers.
