West Chester University’s Wells School of Music Presents Passion Dance: A Faculty Recital Celebrating 21 Years of Teaching from Trumpet Professor Jean-Christophe

Concert Features World Premiere of New Trumpet Work by Guest Artist Oscar Fernando Trujillo Gómez
WEST CHESTER, Pa. — The Wells School of Music at West Chester University (WCU) proudly
presents Passion Dance, a faculty recital led by WCU Professor Jean-Christophe Dobrzelewski, trumpet, on
Monday, February 2, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. The concert celebrates Dobrzelewski’s 21 years
of teaching at WCU and will take place in the Madeleine W. Adler Theatre, Swope Music
Building & Performing Arts Center, 817 S. High Street, West Chester. The event is
free and open to the public.
The recital brings together Dobrzelewski and WCU trumpet instructor Robert Skoniczin,
along with international guest artists Oscar Fernando Trujillo Gómez, trumpet, and
Diana Carolina Medina López, principal violinist with the Symphony Orchestra of Caldas.
Highlighting the versatility and artistry of Wells School of Music faculty and collaborators,
performances also feature the Kryos Brass Quintet — Skoniczin and Dobrzelewski, trumpets;
Elizabeth Pfaffle, horn; Daniel Cherry, trombone; and Jonathan Fowler, tuba — and
a faculty jazz trio with Dean Christopher Hanning, drums; Peter Paulsen, bass; and
Ron Stabinsky, piano.
The program spans classical, contemporary, and Latin American repertoire, featuring works such as Passion Dance for trumpet, violin, and piano by Erik Morales, and Killer Tango by Sonny Kompanek. Four works by Trujillo Gómez will be performed, including the concert’s culmination: the world premiere of Three for Three, a commissioned work for three trumpets — Trujillo Gómez, Dobrzelewski, and Skoniczin — celebrating Dobrzelewski’s 21 years of teaching and performing at WCU.
“This program reflects the values at the heart of our work — collaboration, mentorship,
and meaningful artistic exchange,” says Dobrzelewski. “Celebrating this anniversary
through a new work created by a close colleague and friend 
makes it especially meaningful.”
In addition to performing, Professor Trujillo Gómez will spend the week working with WCU trumpet students, offering masterclasses and individual instruction that reinforce the Wells School of Music’s commitment to global engagement and experiential learning.
Artist Biographies
Jean-Christophe Dobrzelewski, trumpet and WCU Professor of Trumpet
Hailed for his pure tone and musical finesse, international soloist and educator Dr.
Dobrzelewski has performed extensively with orchestras, wind bands, piano, and mixed
chamber ensembles across the United States and internationally. An active freelancer
in the Philadelphia region, he is a founding member of the Grammy-nominated Tromba
Mundi Trumpet Ensemble.
Oscar Fernando Trujillo Gómez, trumpet
Trujillo Gómez is Professor of Trumpet at the University of Caldas (Colombia) and
a Yamaha Artist for Latin America. Founder and director of the Redentorist Conservatory
in Manizales, he holds degrees from the University of Caldas and EAFIT University,
and is pursuing doctoral studies in Pedagogy at UPEL University (Venezuela). An award-winning
composer, his works have received more than fifteen national awards and have been
performed throughout Europe, Asia, and Latin America. His international performances
include the International Trumpet Guild Conferences, major festivals in Spain and
Mexico, and collaborations in music education across Latin America and Europe.
Diana Carolina Medina López, violin
Medina López holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Caldas and a Master
of Music in Violin from EAFIT University. She has been a member of the Caldas Symphony
Orchestra since 2001, currently serving as Principal Second Violin. She has taught
at the Batuta Foundation and the Redentorist Conservatory of Manizales, and serves
as Pedagogical Support for the Arts for Peace Program with the Colombian Ministry
of Culture.
Robert Skoniczin, trumpet, and WCU Trumpet Instructor
Skoniczin has combined a love for teaching and performing across classical, commercial,
jazz, and Broadway settings. He has performed with artists including Aretha Franklin,
Martina McBride, Anne Murray, Pete Fountain, Marvin Hamlisch, Mannheim Steamroller,
and The Who, and appears on recordings with the West Chester University Wind Ensemble,
Tromba Mundi, and Gramercy Brass Orchestra. Skoniczin has performed with organizations
such as Delaware Symphony, Allentown Symphony, Reading Symphony, Opera Philadelphia,
Opera Delaware. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2015.
