WCU’s Dance Company Presents DIVERGENCE on November 7 – 8

West Chester University’s (WCU) Department of Theatre & Dance and the University DanceDivergence Dance Concert Poster Company (UDC) present the fall dance concert DIVERGENCE on Friday, November 7, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, November 8, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., in the Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre, Swope Music Building and Performing Arts Center, 817 S. High Street, West Chester. Tickets range from $14–$24 and are available at www.wcupatix.com.

Under the direction of faculty director and department chair Gretchen Studlien-Webb, DIVERGENCE features eleven original works—including eight student pieces by nine emerging choreographers, two new works by guest artists Richard “Ricky” Dieter III and Tammy Carrasco, and a faculty piece choreographed by Studlien-Webb.

Each choreographer brings a distinct creative voice, exploring personal narratives and contemporary themes through movement. The student works were developed throughout the semester in collaboration with faculty mentors and fellow UDC dancers.

DIVERGENCE celebrates the moment when artists choose their own creative direction,” says Studlien-Webb. “This concert highlights how difference can be a source of beauty, strength, and connection. I’m so proud of the work our students and guest artists have brought to life.”

The concert showcases a dynamic range of dance styles—including jazz, contemporary, modern, hip-hop/step, and 1980s commercial jazz. Each work explores the concept of divergence: the point where paths separate, creativity flourishes, and individuality is embraced. The performance closes with a student-choreographed jazz piece inspired by a recent study abroad trip, featuring Flamenco influences.

Guest choreographers Richard “Ricky” Dieter III and Tammy Carrasco bring professional artistry and unique perspectives to the program.

Dieter, an internationally experienced performer and choreographer, has appeared in concert dance, musical theatre, and cruise productions created by industry leaders such as Barry Manilow, Patti Colombo, and Gustavo Vargas. He has served as an Adjunct Professor of Jazz Dance Technique at Muhlenberg College and is certified as a Stretching & Flexibility Coach through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

Carrasco, a Philadelphia-based dance artist, has presented work at national venues including the Boston Contemporary Dance Festival, Dumbo Dance, Movement Research at Judson Church, and multiple Fringe Festivals. She has performed professionally across the country and currently serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Bryn Mawr College.
