WCU’s Dept. of Theatre & Dance Presents Fourth Annual Dance for HER Benefit Concert
in Support of Unite for HER
Dance for HER Honored with Unite for HER’s 2025–26 Student Service Award
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the West Chester University (WCU) Department of Theatre & Dance, in collaboration with dance studios from across Chester County, will present the fourth annual Dance for HER fundraiser on Sunday, October 19, at 6 p.m. in Asplundh Hall.
Founded in 2022, Dance for HER unites the Chester County dance community in support of Unite for HER, a West Chester–based nonprofit that provides integrative therapies and wellness services for individuals living with breast and ovarian cancers. Unite for HER was founded by West Chester University alumna and former WCU dancer Sue Weldon.
This year, Dance for HER has been selected by Unite for HER to receive the 2025–26 Student Service Award, recognizing the event’s deep commitment to service and community. Since its inception, the fundraiser has raised more than $65,000 in support of patients with breast and ovarian cancers. The award will be celebrated at Unite for HER programs and events throughout the year.
The concert features dancers of all ages performing original works, some choreographed specifically for the benefit. Each year, more than 300 dancers participate, making it one of the region’s most moving and heartfelt celebrations of community and artistry. Both the West Chester University Dance Team and the West Chester University Dance Company will perform. WCU students will also work backstage and front-of-house during the event.
New this year, participating studios will announce the names of loved ones they are “dancing for.” These dedications will be acknowledged before each performance, adding a personal and powerful dimension to the evening.
“All proceeds from the concert go directly to Unite for HER, funding programs that improve the quality of life for patients,” said Dance Department Chair Gretchen Studlien-Webb. “Receiving the Student Service Award underscores that this event is about more than just dance—it’s about supporting patients and helping them when they need it most.”
