Featuring Four Wells School of Music Ensembles, the Concert Welcomes the Entire Community for a Fun and Festive Open-Air Event
Pack some snacks and bring your lawn chairs! West Chester University’s Wells School of Music presents the eighth annual Concert on the Quad on Thursday, May 1, from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Four ensembles will perform FREE for all students, staff, faculty, and the general public. The concert is FREE and will be played on the Quad, just outside of Main Hall, 720 S. High Street, West Chester, PA.
The beloved WCU tradition brings campus and community members together for an unforgettable evening of music in an open-air setting and lots of family-friendly fun.
“This is one of our students’ favorite performances of the year,” says Director of Jazz Studies Jonathan Ragonese. “They love sharing the joy of music with the entire campus in our beautiful outdoor setting. It is the perfect way to usher in spring and to celebrate the end of a long winter semester.
The celebration kicks-off at 4:30 p.m. with high-energy performances by the Steel
Band and the Latin Jazz Ensemble, followed by performances from the Criterions Jazz
Ensemble and the West Chester University Symphony Orchestra (WCUSO). For the first
time, this year the Criterions Jazz Ensemble and the WCUSO will join forces as the
WCU Pops Orchestra whose setlist will include timeless jazz favorites like L-O-V-E and Route 66, made famous by the legendary Nat King Cole.
This year’s concert continues WCU’s commitment to inclusion for the fourth consecutive year as part of the Neuro-Inclusive Campus Environment (NICE) Program. The concert will include ASL interpretation, trained volunteers, a calming relaxation room, an instrument “petting zoo,” and a visit from WCU’s mascot Rammy. Attendees can also enjoy giveaways, clear signage for accessibility, and a visit with therapy dogs to help everyone feel welcome.
